Meet the Media – CIPR event

I chair the Lancashire subgroup of the CIPR North West and we have organised a “meet the media” event on 25th September in Chorley. We’ve got SIX great journalists and the format is in our own inimitable style. Let me explain.

Each journalist gives a 5 minute introduction to the audience who are seated at six tables. Then each journalist sits at one of the tables and chats to the delegates for 15 minutes…at which point they move to the next table.

So it’s not a daunting free-for-all, everyone gets the chance to listen and ask their own questions in a small group. It’s fast moving and effective.

This year we have around 30 PR professionals signed up, to network and engage with key journalists. AND we’re at the amazing new Strawberry Fields Digital Hub in Chorley, who are very kindly sponsoring the event -and providing a hotpot supper to boot.

What I love about these events is that it brings everyone together. I volunteer on the committee because I’m absolutely passionate that my profession should have the opportunity to grow, learn from their peers, find out about the latest trends and engage fully with our community. I always tell my clients that I can’t do PR in a vacuum – in our profession its vital that we have input from our clients – and our peers. Things are changing so fast in PR – from creation to evaluation; from influencers to the media, from the rise of fake news to ethics, if you’re not keeping abreast of the issues, you’re being left behind.
